THE LOCAL AREA

BRICK LANE
A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.

The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.

As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.

SPITALFIELDS MARKET
London's oldest market, Spitalfields is now a seven-days-a-week destination. Spitalfields markets, once a Sunday-only mainstay, are open every day. Resplendent under a Fosters & Partners-designed glass canopy, Spitalfields Traders Market and shops offer cutting edge fashion and interiors, original artworks and as well as food.

Spitalfields market is surrounded by independent shops, cafes, bars and awarding winning restaurants like Canteen, Galvin La Chapell and Giraffe.

COLUMBIA STREET FLOWER MARKET
For an authentic East London experience, nothing comes close to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. Jam packed with the best blooms in the capital, it’s a lively and pretty noisy affair (and not for those who prefer peace and quiet on a Sunday), with salt-of-the-earth Eastender types, shouting at the top of their lungs and all trying to outdo one another's patter.
During the rest of the week you can dine and shop at the rest of the quaint little restaurants and boutiques.

THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO BE IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE LONDON AT ITS BEST!!!

Overall, a very good experience and I would definitely rent it again. Very clean, nice space, quiet location and tons of character. Dryer didn't work well, which was a bit frustrating. Due to heatwave, a fan would have been a welcomed addition. While we didn't have small children, there was no barrier on the front "door" by the main kitchen and living area on the loft. Perhaps adding a few additional horizontal bars could be an inexpensive option to add some safety while still maintaining the aesthetic of the flat. A 3 story drop wouldn't be good for a child, or anyone. Finally, I expected the eclectic decor, which was generally cool. I'd suggest a bit less taxidermy, and the crucifix with skull and cross bones was a bit offensive.

PROS: Lots of light with the unit facing the morning and daylight sunshine. Ensuite kitchenette was convenient. Dish soap was provided. Passable clean linens. Abundant shelving and closet space. Adequate kitchen storage. Spacious. Sitting area. Hot water tank was powerful even though it was of a tiny capacity. Ensuite bath with shampoo, body wash, extra toilet paper. Proximity to Brick Lane. Keyless entry. CONS: Service fee of 112 GBP is on top of nightly rate is disappointing and value not present for services provided. No offer of linen change over a period of a two week stay. Bathroom was horrid – room was the size of a closet, shower appeared to be a modified sink, the washbasin was tiny. Cleanliness was passable. However, mice infestation was evident. Dismal WiFi despite showing 9 hotspots that a renter had to pick from, only one worked at any one time and it would cut in and out continuously. Lots of street noise. All night long. Lots of narrow stairs. No lift.
