Lille: An extraordinary city break in the north of France
As a university city and former European Capital of Culture, Lille is rich in cultural institutions, sights and varied events. Around your holiday home in Lille you will find imposing buildings such as the neo-Gothic cathedral and the citadel with its five bastions, but also the Cannoning Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the historic Palais Rihours. The historic Old Town impresses with its cobbled streets and magnificent architecture from various eras, which has been lavishly restored over the past decades. Find your private apartment in Lille now and discover the Flemish city on the Belgian border, also known in France as the “capital of Flanders”. Private accommodation gives you the freedom to discover the historic streets and quarters of the city away from the tourist attractions. Nevertheless, you don’t have to restrict your privacy as you do with couchsurfing in Lille. Also an accommodation in Reims is only two hours drive from Lille, so you can easily visit the old industrial and commercial city of Lille on your way to neighbouring Belgium or the French Atlantic coast.
Visiting France’s Flemish capital: holiday apartments in Lille
The history of the city of Lille is marked by its geographical and cultural proximity to the West Flemish region. It is one of the centres of historic French-Flanders, but is outside the Flemish-speaking area. The splendid Flemish architecture and the historic terraced houses, unusual for France, also bear witness to Lille’s historical importance as a part of French Flanders. Use your holiday home in Lille to discover the characteristic Flemish brick buildings in the Rue de la Monnaie and admire the magnificent baroque facades around the Grand Place, which bear witness to the former wealth of the old trading town. To this day, the Grand Place is the centre of the city and invites you to linger with its countless terrace cafés. If you book your private holiday home in Lille at the beginning of September, you will also have the opportunity to visit Europe’s largest flea market. The Liller Braderie will entice you for a week with antiques, curiosities and traditional mussel food all over the city. A visit to the Braderie makes an overnight stay in Lille absolutely worthwhile. The Scarpe-Schelde Nature Park in the vicinity of Lille, with its diverse swamp and forest landscape, numerous hiking trails and the thermal resort of Saint-Armand-Les-Eaux, also awaits you.
Apartments in Lille and on the North French coast
In the immediate vicinity of the Belgian-French border, a holiday home in Lille serves as a practical starting point for you to explore the nearby Benelux countries as well as the northern French coast in an individual way. Use your Apartment in Nord-Pas-De-Calais for a visit to the old Belgian trading town of Gent or visit the coastal town of Dunkerque with its extensive promenade and busy harbour on a day trip. For the onward journey to your holiday home in Paris you have hourly TGV connections at your disposal, which will take you to the French capital in two hours. The port of Calais can also be reached from Lille in one and a half hours by TGV. From Calais you can not only visit the English Dover comfortably by ferry, but also travel on to your holiday home in Berck and other seaside resorts along the northern French coast.

This is a very comfortable and well equipped apartment with the bonus of secure parking. Away from the road it is quiet at night, but is very close to the metro. There is a pleasant walk 20 mimutes along the canal to the centre of Lille. Our hosts Jacques and his wife were charming any helpful. We arrived to a much appreciated welcome pack. I would highly recommend this flat if you require parking and plan to use the metro to get around Lille.Anthea reviewed T2 au coeur des commerces et transports in Lambersart Commune
