At Quinta dos Sobreiros (QDS) we offer flexible holiday accommodation for up to 6 people. Self catering in a choice of 1 bedroom (Pequenos Pinheiros) or 2 bedroom (Casa Carvalho) fully equipped cottages. The private swimming pool (shared by the two properties) with adjacent communal room offers additional options for relaxation and entertainment.
Located in the rural centre of Portugal, Quinta dos Sobreiros is ideally suited for those that want to ‘discover the heart of Portugal’.
Or just 'get away from it all'
Quinta dos Sobreiros is a 3 acre site set mainly to fruit trees in a peaceful rural location, surrounded by woodland in the heart of the beautiful Portuguese countryside.
An ideal location where you can explore historical towns and enjoy stunning views of the Zezere Valley and mountainous regions. There are numerous opportunities for walking, cycling, swimming at the ‘river beaches’ general sight seeing or even more adventurous activities. Soaking up the sun and just relaxing by the private swimming pool is also an option.
Located approximately 1km from the nearest village which is about 5km from the town of Pedrogao Grande. The road to Quinta dos Sobreiros is a metalled road, this road gives access to the forest areas but only goes as far as the next Quinta. Therefore, there is very little (almost none) traffic passing the property.
Quinta dos Sobreiros has been the home of Tony & Liz since April 2011. We have no animals or pets at the Quinta but along with vegetables and vine, we have nearly 200 hundred fruit trees which provide us with numerous crops during the year. We have had a great deal of help from our Portuguese neighbours who farm nearby. They have extended a warm friendship from the day we arrived. It hasn't always been easy as they speak no English, luckily now our Portuguese is improving but we still have a long way to go.
When we first saw the site we fell in love with it. There were 2 stone buildings on it and a green field full of fruit trees. We were able to renovate the stone buildings into 2 rustic style letting properties with a modern feel, plus build a house for ourselves to live in. The location is rural, tranquil and set in the commercial forest area. The smell of eucalyptus and pine is refreshing. With no near neighbours the quinta is secluded yet not isolated.
A south facing sun terrace by the pool allows all day sunbathing if you wish, plus shaded areas when you need to cool down. Easy access to towns and major routes. Local walks to cafes and river beaches direct from the property. We have explored the local area and are happy to impart any knowledge we have gained including many guided walks.
We like to feel that we are discreet to our guests but available to help when required. We do find that some of the advice and help that we can offer gives our guests the confidence to explore the area, try the food and the best restaurants and also dabble a little with the Portuguese language.

Town: Portugal, Central, Pedrogao Grande
Pedrogao Grande is a small market town offering all of the basics requirements, including shops, bars, restaurants, library, and cinema. It also has many nice gardens and also sports amenities (most free).
Just 14km in either direction you will find plenty of larger supermarkets so getting your supplies will never be a problem. Should you still need more choice then you can be in the city of Coimbra in less than 1 hour.
The Central region is one of Portugal’s most surprising and beautiful areas. It remains one of those ‘secrets’ that the British love, it reminds us of the Lake District ...but with a much better climate!
It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and full of deep contrasts. From the sandy beaches on the west coast, this landscape is one of rolling hills covered in pine and eucalyptus forests; lush green valleys; and the high mountain peaks to the north. Numerous rivers slowly meander through the towns and villages. This is a region bursting with breathtaking views, characterised by soothing colours and enhanced by the wonderful scents of Mimosa in the late winter and Eucalyptus and Pine in the summer.
Life in Central Portugal is relatively inexpensive and those who relish good food will discover that the local bars, restaurants and cafés offer tasty, wholesome Portuguese fare which, when washed down with very palatable local wine, is so affordable that there really is no better excuse for not cooking at home!
