Vienna is a magical city, with history around every corner. Long the cosmopolitan centre of the Austrian Empire, Vienna saw great composers fill its churches with music, the building of beautiful palaces such as Schonbrunn, and the invention of psychoanalysis by Freud, among many other things. Staying in a holiday apartment in Josefstadt would let you relive some of the city’s past glories. Visit stunning attractions like the fascinating Museum of Art History, trace the footsteps of Harry Lime in the Third Man, see the animals of the Tiergarten and catch a show at the State Opera House. You could even hire formal dress for the occasion and really step into the class and grandeur of the Fin de Siecle age.
An apartment in Josefstadt lets Vienna come alive
Josefstadt itself is a charming central district of the city, with elegant boulevards and many exclusive residences. It is also a historic artistic quarter, and is still home to the Josefstadt Theatre, the oldest functioning theatre in Vienna and one of the leading institutions of the capital. See a show there and imagine watching the orchestra being conducted by greats like Beethoven and Wagner, both of whom performed there. And after that, head to a local restaurant to sample Vienna’s famous culinary culture. Have a delicious Schnitzel or Gulasch before tucking into desserts like Apple Strudel or Sachertorte. Not a place for those who are dieting, Vienna is a feast for the senses – with art and food that will satisfy lovers of the good life.
Donaustadt is another option for holiday accommodation
On the other side of the Danube from Josefstadt, a holiday apartment in Donaustadt would give visitors a bit more privacy and calm. The Donaustadt region is nonetheless full of interest, with the United Nations building and the cavernous Donauzentrum – Vienna’s largest shopping centre and a great place to snag those vital souvenirs. The Donauinsel is a beautiful island in the river, with plenty of places to enjoy a traditional Viennese picnic, while it also offers canoeing and kayaking on the river, a fantastic way to see the city from a different perspective.

Latest reviews for places in Vienna-Josefstadt
This is a fabulous apartment! Bright, spacious, excellently equipped and very nicely and tastefully decorated and, importantly, in a marvellous . location right in the middle in what is probably the hippest part of beautiful Vienna, with great atmosphere and lots of great boutiques, cafes and restaurants, and in easy walking distance of the splendorous Ringstraße and the historic city centre. A brilliant dentist around the corner as well! I stayed there for about a fortnight and had a wonderful time, felt very much at home in the flat. Highly recommended!!marieke reviewed 10´walking to the historic center in Josefstadt
The apartment was just what we needed and was well equipped, we enjoyed our stay and would happily return another time. Whilst at first sight, parts of the local area seemed a little run-down, it's actually a really convenient place to be located as there are lots of great eateries and quirky stores in the vicinity. The highlights of the city are all walkable, and a choice of supermarkets close by. Thanks Elisa and Edmund!Barbara reviewed 10´walking to the historic center in Josefstadt
Good transportation connections. A few more teaspoons wouldn't be bad if you are 4 people in the apartment as we were.Werner reviewed 10´walking to the historic center in Josefstadt
