In order not to come out as a visitor on the first day, a little tip in advance. Following the local jargon, your private apartment is located at Alsergrund, Vienna, not in Alsergrund. Apartments am Alsergrund, Vienna – one of the most important districts of the city
Although the Alsergrund is located within the former ramparts of the town, the district itself was only created in 1850 by the incorporation of a total of seven suburbs, which were created from settlements dating from the 9th century. This section is primarily known for its numerous academic institutions. In the immediate vicinity of your private holiday apartment at Alsergrund, Vienna, you will find both the University of Economics and Business Administration – one of the largest institutions of its kind in Europe – and the campus of the University of Vienna. The cultural centre is the Volksoper, which specialises mainly in classical programmes such as operettas, operas or ballet performances. The Iron Curtain, one of the district’s landmarks, is also located here. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the throne of Emperor Franz Josef I and was designed by Karl Schüller and Georg Janny. The most famous address, however, is probably Berggasse 19, where Sigmund Freund once lived and worked, and where you can find the museum named after him today. One of the most important sights in Vienna is the Votivkirche, built in neo-Gothic style. The Ringstraßendom is one of the world’s most important sacral buildings of the neo-gothic style and is with a height of 99 meters the second highest church of the metropolis. Between coffee house culture and underground – private holiday apartments at Alsergrund, Vienna
A good day begins with a good breakfast – this is also true in Vienna, and especially for Rochus 1090 (Liechtensteinstraße 42). The Rochus promises the best Viennese coffee house tradition and, as an offshoot of the popular restaurant of the same name, also has a lot of experience in pampering its guests. A smart idea of the operators is the box system, where you can arrange your breakfast individually and the presentation of the food does not fall by the wayside – an idea that has given the Rochus many loyal regular guests. A little further on you will find the Tibetan restaurant Songtsen Gampo (Währinger Gürtel 102). Here, in the immediate vicinity of the Volksoper, a culinary microcosm unfolds that attracts visitors from all over Vienna, if only because of its hearty Shogo Momos. If you are not sure what it is all about, then a visit is even more worthwhile. The Dalai Lama, whose likeness greets you with a gentle smile at the entrance, would probably feel extremely comfortable here. Regardless of how varied your day in Vienna has been so far – on the way back to your private accommodation at Alsergrund, Vienna, a visit to the WERK Kunst- und Kulturzentrum (Spittelauer Lände 12) should be firmly planned. Here, in the huge vaulted cellar below the old factory buildings, an underground club has been created which is probably unique in all of Austria. Already the way there is an experience, as the club does without big signs or pomp. Once found, however, you will land in the middle of a real witch’s cauldron, which will whip you through the night until the early morning hours. It’s a good thing that your private holiday apartment in Vienna is just around the corner, because after a long party night the way to your well-deserved rest is not far away – a luxury that is often denied you at Couchsurfing am Alsergrund, Vienna. A somewhat different approach to the metropolis is offered by a private Apartment in Ottakring, Vienna, where the traditional side of the city is still lovingly cultivated – with a distinct Viennese dialect and in the numerous Heurigen, where Schrammel music invites you to dance in the evening. But no matter which district you choose, you can always book the right private holiday accommodation with us.
