Apartment, Private room - New York City, United States

ID 95640
5.0 (7 reviews)

Note: Host also speaks Spanish. Anfintriona es hispano-parlante.

This listing is for a Queen-size bed in a private bedroom, and a bathroom in the apartment that would be shared between you and me. Note that I only have one set of guests staying with me at any time, so there would be no one else in the apartment...just you and me!

Here's what you can expect if you stay with me:

- impeccably clean apartment
- 100% cotton sheets of superior quality (high thread count)
- big fluffy bath towels
- access to my small balcony with chairs and plants
- I have an extra mobile phone available for your use if you don't have a phone that will work in the U.S. You just need to bring the phone to any one of the nearby phone stores and buy a pre-paid card/chip for US$10 or so. This will allow you to send local text messages or short phone calls to make meeting plans with friends in NYC, etc.
- many ethnic restaurants nearby (Greek, Japanese, Italian, etc.), some very nice coffeeshops, and bagel shops
- self-serve breakfast consisting of organic breads and cereals (including gluten-free), Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, organic milk, soy milk, rice milk, whole coffee beans to grind daily, a variety of teas, etc.
- I have a high-speed blender and can make you fresh juice and/or vegetable drinks, smoothies, or freshly ground almond milk each day.. You can also make your own drinks if you like by using this blender. I will always have on-hand various fruits/vegetables for making healthy drinks.
- access to a hair dryer
- an NYC guidebook, maps of Manhattan and Brooklyn and other information on tourist attractions

Staying in Queens provides you with a more authentic experience of living in a neighborhood with regular New Yorkers, and no tourists in sight. Plus you are still close enough to Manhattan and all the popular tourist sites! As said in Wikipedia.org:

"Queens is the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world with a population of over 2.2 million, 46% of whom are foreign-born, representing over 100 different nations and speaking over 138 different languages."

How cool is that?! ;-)

I live in the Queens neighborhood of Astoria, which is known for its Greek population, in addition to Italian, Mexican, Egyptian, Lebanese, Bangladeshi, Japanese, Brazilian and more!

Astoria is also popular due to its proximity to Manhattan (25 minutes to the Upper East Side section of Manhattan and Central Park, 30 minutes to Midtown/Times Square/Rockefeller Center), but is also popular for its ethnic diversity. Note: It is a ten minute walk from the subway to my apartment. There are also two buses that can take you to the subway as well.

I love hosting visitors (especially first-time visitors to New York) and helping them figure out how to make the most of their time in NYC. (Though if you don't need or want such assistance, that's OK too!)

I do not host on 9flats purely for the money. I mainly do this because I love being helpful to people and giving them a nice place to rest their heads at night! ;-) I take a lot of pride in giving you a nice attractive home to stay in.

I am here to help you with whatever you need while here in NYC. At the same time, I am always respectful of my guests' need for space and privacy. I take my cues from my guests. If they want to be sociable with me, great! If not, that's ok too!

I generally go to bed around 1130p and wake up around 800a so it's best if guests keep these same general hours. If you want to come home late at night that is not a problem for me.

Your bedroom provides you with a view of airplanes in the sky after they have taken off or are preparing to land at the nearby La Guardia airport! ;-)

Note that I have two cats, and that it is a ten-minute walk from my apartment to the subway.

One important rule: I cannot allow for guests who have alot of luggage or otherwise your sleeping area will feel too crowded and you will not be able to move around. You can each have one small or medium-sized suitcase and a small tote bag. Multiple suitcases per person are not allowed, nor are jumbo suitcases. I prefer guests who have done enough travelling in their life, that they have come to understand the benefits of 'travelling light'. (Note that I have two luggage racks onto which you can place your items.)

Here are the general dimensions of luggage:

Small: 22" x 14" x 19" (or 55.9 x 35.6 x 22.9cm) is the general size of luggage that you can carry with you onto the plane. This is the ideal size for my apartment! You could each have one suitcase of this size plus a small tote bag.

Medium: 25" x 17" x 11" (or 63.5 x 43.2 x 27.9cm) is the next larger size of suitcase. Each person could have one suitcase of this size, but no other suitcases even if they are smaller.

Jumbo: 28" x 19" x 12" (or 71.1 x 48.3 x 30.5cm) is the next larger size of suitcase. This is what I'd consider too large for my apartment.

Thank you!

NOTE: Any guest reviews prior to July 2014 are for my previous apartment. My current apartment does NOT have views of the Manhattan skyline or a roofdeck (both of which are mentioned in some of my previous guest reviews.)

New building, perfect location. Very clean apartment with very nice kitchen. Btw, there is a gym downstairs and amazing roof where you can enjoy your beer or cocktails with beautiful scenery of NYC Skyline. Simply fantastic place, go for it.

Lynn is a perfect host. She has everything prepared: all necessary info about city and its places, and actually much much more than I could digest during my 1 week stay. Very considerate, open-minded and easy going person. Always helpful, whatever pops-up. It was great experience. I would definitely recommend her as a host.

We diddn`t miss anything in Jeff`s appartement. This is a very modern appartement with really all you need, spacious clean, dishwasher, oven, microwave, washing maschine, modern bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The only disadvantage is perhaps the location as it is in West New York and you need to get to a bus through the Lincoln tunnel (which is sometimes crowded) or a ferry to get to Manhattan with extra costs. The bus services are very good, we never had to wait for a bus. It takes up to 30 minutes to go to Manhattan. The skyline from the New Jersey side of New York is amazing and we enjoyed to live outside the noisy and busy parts of New York.

Our hosts have been very friendly and the whole family helped us whenever we had a problem or a question. They called us a taxi for the morning we left New York and made sure it was in time. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
