Palermo: The Heart Of Sicily
The capital of the Italian island of Sicily, Palermo, is one of the country’s lesser known gems. It lacks the upfront tourist cache of Rome and Florence, but that makes its many hidden treasures all the more exciting to discover. The best way to do so is by opting for vacation rentals in Palermo, so you can explore this hectic and exhilarating city as the locals do. 9flats.com offers a wide selection of guest house and apartment accommodation for you to choose from so that you can sample the raw energy of Palermo. The best way to get around is via the public bus system and on foot, so that you can seek out the hidden cultural treasures of castles, palaces, churches and museums.
Your first stop would have to be Palermo Cathedral, a honey colored edifice with a long history of alterations and additions which combine to produce a fascinating admixture of architectural styles. The Norman Palace was built following the hard won struggle against the Arab rulers for control of the city. It is a huge, triumphant and breathtakingly beautiful building which holds some fascinating exhibits on Norman history.
To learn more about the city’s history the Regional Archaeological Museum is a must. This traces Palermo’s fortunes from prehistory to the present by way of some superb Greek and Roman artifacts. With vacation rentals Palermo will reveal its secrets to you, so see what 9flats.com have to offer.
Try Vacation Rentals In Palermo and Live like a Local
A visit to Italy’s largest opera house, the Teatro Massimo, will enable you to experience a performance in the perfect acoustics of this gorgeous late 19th century building. If you don’t mind a slightly scary but completely absorbing experience, the Cappuccini Catacombs beckon. Here can be seen the mummified or skeletal remains of around 8000 former inhabitants of the city. Some are incredibly well preserved and all are kept in painstaking, if macabre, order. For a lighter treat, you can explore the Sicilian fascination with marionette theater at the Puppet Museum, and maybe catch a performance. If you’d like to take it easy after exploring this magnificent cultural heritage from your vacation rentals in Palermo, then why not take in the Arab souk atmosphere of one of the many street markets, or relish the luxury of the marble lined Hammam bath house and be pampered with a massage and therapy? Alternatively you could head for one of the various public beaches washed by the warm, clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Having enjoyed Palermo by way of your 9flats.com accommodation, you may be tempted to the Italian mainland to try vacation rentals in Venice. Or you may decide to venture further into Europe with an apartment in Barcelona or a guest house in Paris.

We were a group of 5 and the apartment was wonderful - clean, cosy, all amenities, perfect location, beautiful terrace. I would 100% recommend it to others visiting and would return again. Really close to Ballaro & Quattro Canti and lots of great restaurants and bars that we had found out about. Absolutely perfect.

Valeria's appartment is located in a litlle street, not far from everywhere on foot ; the appartment is well kept and equipped and air-conditioned. and so, I recommend it - not very far close to the church there is a small bar as well as a souvenir shop down the bar where people are nice with lovely articles such as traditional jewelry made with stone from Etna

My girlfriend and I booked this place for a 5 day's stay in Palermo, and we must say it was perfect from the very first start. Not only did Massimo ask us if he could give us a lift from the airport, he also was very helpful yet discreet during our whole stay. The apartment with its two bedrooms is big enough for 4-5 (max.) people, very clean and very nicely furbished. And, wich is not always the case, it has new mattrasses and enough sheets even for northern European habits. The flat is ideally located in the very center of Palermo - it's 5 minutes to the railway station and 8 minutes to "Quattro Canti", the seaside is also only some minutes away. What makes the flat so special, is the roof terrace with some nice views, incl. the cathedral of Palermo. We can 100%ly recommend this apartment - it absolutely best value for money, and Massimo is always friendly and helpful in the background. Worth 5 stars!!!!
