Your accommodation in Basque Country on the French side of the border
The Basque Country is characterised by cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastian (Donostia) and Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Autonomous Community. Also Pamplona, although not legally part of the Basque Country, is to be counted for historical and cultural reasons. You will also find private accommodation in small seaside resorts on the sometimes wildly romantic coast or inland with its varied mountain and hilly landscape. A holiday home in the Basque Country is the ideal starting point to discover a city like Bilbao. Since the opening of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the city, once often referred to as a faceless industrial metropolis, has experienced a considerable boom. The old town (Casco Viejo) is an excellent place for shopping and going out. The right accommodation in the Basque Country can also be found in San Sebastian, which attracted celebrities from all over Europe, especially wealthy Britons, due to its mild climate as early as the 19th century. Noble buildings from the Belle Epoque still characterise the beach promenade today. Worth seeing is the old town (Parte Vieja) between the bay of La Concha and the mouth of the river Urumea into the Bay of Biscay. Also Vitoria-Gasteiz with its picturesque old town and its well-kept parks is worth a trip.
Basque Country – Urban life and unspoilt nature
There is also an apartment in Basque Country on the French side of the border. Famous seaside resorts such as Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz dominate here. The picturesque small town of Bayonne with its typical Basque character and the historically interesting border town of Hendaye also offer a holiday home in the Basque Country. An overnight stay in Biarritz is always worthwhile. From the middle of the 19th century on the initiative of the then French Empress Eugenie, a simple fishing village developed into a world-class health resort. Today it is a centre for surfers and other sports fans. In the nearby Saint-Jean-de-Luz with its picturesque fishing port you will find a cheap holiday apartment as well as an apartment in the interior of the country.
