About Burton

A technology venture finance & innovation organization strategy & policy senior professional, working in Silicon Valley, WashDC, Europe & Latin America. Invited speaker @ VC/angel, industry, govt & academic conferences. I teach European Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Stanford's Engineering School (http://me421.stanford.edu). Wanted to be an astronaut. Still want to be an astronaut. Just not with NASA. Why? Because when I was a little boy, around 2 1/2 - 3 years old, my Finnish Godmother Layton (Alma Lehtinen Lerum) would take me in her arms each nite, and we would go outside to say goodnite to the stars. And I have never forgotten that. Or her. Intensely curious. About everything. Challenging everything. (this can be quite exhausting ;-) A fierce focus on understanding the underlying structure of knowledge in any given domain or situation. Sometimes focusing on the *structure* of a problem - vs the problem itself - can yield surprising clues to its solution.
