I live in Melbourne, Australia and for a short period in September/October of this year, I shall be joining my mother’s cousin for a portion of his (more extensive) trip. The 9flats website asks to lists things I’m passionate about and I guess reading has to be right up there; I am never without a book. Good food and wine also rate highly; when travelling a long leisurely meal in a café or restaurant is also a great chance to sit back and watch the locals and other visitors going about their lives. I head to the gym a few mornings a week and sing in an after-work city community choir once a week. Although I am very committed to both, I couldn’t honestly say I excel at either. My mum’s cousin lives on the other side of Australia, with a 2 hour time delay, so coordinating this little trip isn’t the easiest thing. But one of the greater challenges has been finding affordable 2-bedroom accommodation in great locations, preferably with a kitchen. As my travelling companion is an Emeritus Archbishop and very familiar with Rome, he will likely be able to assist with accommodation suggestions for the Italian capital, but the hunt for Venetian lodgings is my domain. I've just read that I may need to upload a photo to get a booking. I have never really become enamoured of social media, do not use Facebook and do not upload my photos to the internet. So, if a photo is in fact mandatory for any booking, then I guess the previous text is superfluous.
