China Tiger is made up of 2 separate properties side by side on China Street. No. 25 is the private home of the Wilkinson Family. They bought this property (originally a Chinese merchants private residence dating back to 1846) as a wreck and took 2 years to restore it into their full time family home. Now restored to its original form, 2 suites are offered as personal owner hosted home-stays. Feel the history of this house and experience living in a heritage home. These suites are best suited to guests who have never been to George Town or Penang and would like to experience the heritage city through Rebecca Wilkinson's eyes, as she introduces you to favourite stalls and restaurants, favourite shops, thieves markets, wet markets, traditional stores and other sites that she loves. No 29 is right next door and was renovated and rebuilt in the early 1950's. This property was also restored from its previous use as an urban swiftlet farm to what is now, Rebecca's Studio and gallery on the ground floor, and the 2 Studio Apartments that make up the rest of China Tiger. These apartments are self contained and are ideal for a family or close group of friends who know Penang or who want to take the plunge and explore the heritage zone of George Town on their own. They are modern but decorated with a funky mix of new and old. Everything is within walking distance, food is available all around and advise is available just downstairs in the Gallery. A small grocery basket is provided and kids can have cereal while mum and dad pop across the street for tosai and dahl! A great 'home' base' while you are here. Both properties are fully air-conditioned with fans, hot and cold water and free wi-fi. China Tiger is surrounded by wonderful architecture, spices and absolutely fabulous food! Everything that gave George Town the UNESCO World Heritage Listing. It will be our pleasure to show you the best of what Georgetown has to offer- the colourful cultures, the festivals, street markets, food, wonderful traditional trades and some of the most interesting people in the world. All you have to do is step out of our front door! China Tiger provides a very special oasis in the middle of the very exciting heritage and cultural area of George Town.
