This is the heart of the Paris fabric district in Montmartre at Marche St Pierre. The street used to be called rue des Acacias and was changed to 'Village d'Orsel' in 1802 by Joseph Orsel and kept this name until 1838, at which, it was incorporated into Montmartre. You can still see and sense the Bohemian life of the neighbourhood.
The entrance of the apartment building is placed between two fabric shops to add to the charm. Thee are an abundance of restaurants close by as well as funky boutiques everywhere you look. If you love design and fabric, you are in the right area at the Marche St. Pierre - the best fabric district in Paris.
The Marche St Pierre's name comes from a market that used to be located in the same area in the 1930's. In 1879 a couple of families, one being Daniel Moline, started selling fabric at a shop close to the market. They had such great success that in 1920, Daniel's son, Armand opened another shop. More stores followed in the 1930s.
To this day, you can still find Moline Mercerie at 2, 4, 6 rue de Livingstone which is right by this apartment.
This apartment is situated on rue d'Orsel where it meets rue Livingstone, in the heart of Montmartre.
This vibrant area is alive with the sound of church bells ringing, music playing, and cafe conversations. Here you will find some of the city's most authentic and desirable shops, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and wine and cheese merchants. Easy to miss, but well worth looking for, is Square Jehan Rictus, tucked in adjacent to the children's carousel, and Abbesses metro. This tiny park contains a 430 sq. ft. mural covered with the words 'I Love You' in 311 language- a befitting tribute to Amour in Paris.
The Abbesses metro station is also close by at about a 5 minute walk from the front door of the apartment. From here you can connect to anywhere in Paris. A little further down the road is Bus 95 which stops at the Opera, and at some of the most famous department stores in Paris, such as Printemps, and Galleries Lafayette. It also goes to the Louvre, the Latin Quarter, Gare Montparnasse, and the famous flea market at Porte de Vanves. Gare du Nord is a short 10 minute walk from the apartment. From there, you can connect to anywhere in Europe.
Among the other sights nearby are the world famous Moulin Rouge, the artists' square at Place du Tertre and the lively clubs and theatres of Place Pigalle.

Host and my "greeter" were available to me 24/7 but I had no need for contact as everything was absolutely straightforward.
