BRAND NEW APARTMENT!!!!
I maintain this one bedroom semi-basement apartment for my friends that come visit me in NYC and rational enough not to pay Manhattan or hotel rates. It should be obviuos tradeoff - take 20 minutes subway ride to Manhattan and save more than $100 a day in addition of geting 10 times the living space!!!
This apartment has separate entrance, separate bathroom and what really matters to me and my friends - PRIVACY. They do not interrupt my life and in turn there is no need to coordinate who and when takes a shower or what time you coming or leaving, what shelf in refrigerator you can use etc. If you prefer all that hassle and feel that you have to mutch money then rent a shared room for twice the price in Manhattan.
There are only few house rules - no parties, no noise, no smoking, no breaking stuff and no pets. Everything else is up to you.
Apartment is located in historical Queens neighborhood Ridgewood. It usually takes me 5 minutes (3 blocks away) to the nearest subway station and 20 minutes ride to the center of Manhattan - 14 Street - Union Square. Trains run 24/7. There are multitude of restaurants (Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Thai, Caribbean) and fast food establishments (McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut) within 4 block radius. There are two supermarkets that are open 24 Hrs, Duane Read pharmacy, Laundromat and all major Banks in less than 5 minutes walking distance. JFK and LaGuardia Airports are less than 30 minutes car ride away (off peak hours).
Subway runs 24/7. Every 6 minutes during peek Hrs and every 10-15 min during off peek Hrs. Nearest train is L line ( colored gray on subway map) Halsey Street stop
The apartment is fully equipped with all that you would need during your trip. It has its own Bathroom with shower ( 4 fresh and clean towels included). One QUEEN SIZE BED with clean linens and one QUEEN SIZE SOFABED. Wi-Fi internet and 47 inch flat screen TV with Satellite DIRECTV. Electrical fireplace that also works as a heater, iron and ironing board, alarm clock, hair dryer, work table, sofa, coffee table, dining table etc. It has it all!
There is no full kitchen but rather a kitchenette without the stove. However, it has a normal refrigerator, kitchen sink, electric water kettle, microwave, cups, plates and utensils - everything you would need for very light cooking or reheating whatever you bought in local supermarket or brought from last night's dinner. Once again - with so many restaurants ( that also deliver) serious home cooking is not necesary.
If anyone wonders about safety, I can assure you that the RIDGEWOOD neighborhood is very safe. As a matter of fact, it is 25% safer than ASTORIA! Only the fact that there are 6 banks within 3 city block range, and nearest subway station is the underground one - that's already a big proof of safety.
However don't take my word for it and check crime rates for Ridgewood, NY before you book on spotcrimeDOTcom. I am beginning to suspect that most apartments listed in Bushwick, Clinton Hills or Bedford Stuyvesant have difficulty finding regular tenants so 9flats with unsuspecting tourists seem like a good alternative due to safety concerns. So do your diligence and stay safe or take your chances.

I stayed with my family at Joris apartment for a couple of days. My parents and sister arrived a few days before me as I still had to work. Arriving at the house you would not expect what awaits you inside. The apartment is in the basement and my parents weren't uses to that so at first it was kind of a shock, but the shock was gone pretty soon. The apartment has a family room with two couches, one of the is functuring as a bed. The apartment also has a small bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. It was perfect for our stay and just a short walk to the subway station. Joris as a host was very helpful as well. Even before we arrived he send us descriptions on how to get to the apartment and which ways are the best and cheapest, so the taxi driver wouldn't rip us off!
All in all we had a very pleasant stay and I'm sure I'll come back if I visit NYC again! (:

The apartment was really great, very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The pictures are very accurate, what you see is what you get. We prefer to use the Myrtle metro station, because we find the zone better.
If we return to NY we will choose this apartment again!

Joris' flat is very convenient for a family stay. There is a fridge and a micro-way and a " kichennette". We always had our breakfasts and sometimes our dinners there. All superstores around are convenient to get some foods (prices are more interested than in Manhattan).

Joris was the perfect host. Even before my family and I got to NYC. He send me all kinds of information regarding on how to get to his apartment the easiest and cheapest way. If we had any issues we could just text Joris via whats app and he would be there in an instant. He checked up on us the night prior to our departure just to make sure everything was great. I can only say, thank you Joris for the great stay! (:

Joris is very helpful and very nice. He is very organized. We have received a description of the way for coming to his flat from the airport JFK. All information needed was in the documents sent to us 10 days before our arrival.
