Our house is nestled on the mountainside in Muizenberg (www.muizenberg.info), overlooking False Bay. You must walk up 120 steps to get to it; once on the property you're far away from traffic and the deck affords magnificent views across the bay all the way to Cape Point in the South and the Helderberg mountains in the East. If you're lucky you can spot the first whales that come to mate and calve every year at the beginning of winter. It is about a ten-minute walk to Surfers' Corner, one of South Africa's most famous surfing spots, and the beach. From there you can walk along the shore to Kalk Bay, an old fishing village popular with locals and tourists for its many restaurants and small shops (www.kalkbay.org). The mountain behind the house is part of the Table Mountain range and offers both long and short walks through fynbos and indigenous forest.
Muizenberg lies on the Simons Towns--Cape Town train line. The False Bay station is just below the house, in case you prefer to commute to Green Point using public transport. By car it's a good half-hour drive to the city centre and the stadium.
The house itself has two bedrooms on two different floors with queen size beds that each sleep two people. There is an additional bed in a loft in a separate study. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a shower and a bath tub. The kitchen and lounge area is open plan and looks out over the Bay and the indigenous garden. The house is a non-smoking zone.
At the bottom of the house is a separate flat where Trenta (the dog) and I live during your stay.
