Vinohrady is a safe and family friendly district of apartments, the vast majority of which date from the mid 19th century to the first three decades of the 20th century. Even if you don't know much about the history of Vinohrady, the name itself offers a very strong clue. Vinohrady, as you probably guessed, means “vineyards", which were established in the 14th century and once covered the area.
Vinohradská Street itself, where apartment is located, is the main thoroughfare of Vinohrady. A lively, bustling high street running east/west. The neighbourhood begins just behind the National Museum on Wenceslas Square and extends eastwards.
In the oldest part of Vinohrady housing consists of apartments in tenements built before the WWI. Properties are of consistently good quality and often retain original features such as plaster ceilings, hardwood floors or original doors.
Vinohrady district's reputation is as one of Prague's best neighbourhoods.
+ BEER GARDEN: The main green space in Vinohrady is Riegrovy sady. The park is well known to many expats thanks to the Park Café, comprising one of the best beer gardens in the city.
+ BE LOCAL: Vinohrady is good for traditional, locally-owned shops, the kind of stores where the staff knows about the products. However, if you're looking for malls, you'll find them in Vinohrady, too. There also is a varied range of affordable restaurants.
