Close 2 Chicago NU in Evanston Lake

Apartment, Private room - Evanston, United States

ID 29340

Our home is located near everything you could want. It is located in the Evanston Lakefront Historic District and was built in 1888. It is located next to Evanston's downtown, a few blocks south of NU, lots of shops, a Whole Foods one block away, many different ethnic restaurants, and lots of cultural venues for entertainment. It is located just 3 blocks west of Lake Michigan and a block east of the train to downtown Chicago, approx 25 minutes away. If you have kids, we have a play lot across the street and along the lakefront.

Although our home is vintage, it has all of the modern amenities a person needs for our 21st century lifestyles. We have central air and heat, cable TV and wireless internet everywhere in the house and yard.

We also have 2 little white/black toy fox terrier dogs that I've never heard a growl out of. They have always been great at making friends w/ people. Recently, we had two young men with us. A young German man from Wiesbaden who had never had a dog before. 6 months later, he was so in love with these pupettes, that I think, if he would have tried to take one more picture on his phone, it might have exploded! haaaa. Then there was Yuong (Tony) Liu, from China. He also had never had a dog and at first was very frightened of dogs. He would walk towards them and if they started to approach him, he would turn on his heels and walk very fast the other way. Well after some coaching, Tony, too fell in love w/ these two little harmless pupettes. The worse these two can do is shed some of that white fur on you, which I'm always trying to control, but....

My husband and I have served as hosts to people from all over the world and sometime at the same time. We started doing this when I took a job as the Midwest Coordinator for an International High School Student Exchange Program and got to know how easy it was meeting people from around the world. Since then, and hosting many Northwestern Graduate Students working on their Masters in our home, our friends have taken to calling our house the "Gertrude Stein Home of Evanston", which I take as a compliment. They explain this by saying, each time they meet someone at our home, they know they are going to learn something new. They also have said that they have been impressed to see that not only are these people living in our home, but they can see that they have become our friends. And, they love the comarade they feel which eminates from our home. Wow, now if only we could bottle that and sell it to the world, eh?

Because I am a writer, I work out of our home, and will always be available to answer any questions you may have that come up about using something in the house or about our local area. In each bedroom, there is a refrigerator, so you can shop and make your meals at will in our kitchen. Everyone is free to use all our kitchen appliances as long as they clean up after themselves. I will be happy to show you around where things are stored. Also, in each bedroom there is a desk for your laptop where you can do you work if necessary. Guest are free to work just about anywhere they wish in the house. The first floor has a large living room and is a pleasant room to work in with lots of light.

Besides the downstairs living room, guests can use the kitchen to work in, the family room, the dining room, the screened in outside porch in warm weather. We have a large garden which you are encouraged to enjoy, again, weather permitting and can also work on the table in the outdoor patio, since you should be able to use the Internet outside.

The laundry facility on the second floor is for your smaller loads of laundry and the basement laundry facility can be used for your larger loads of laundry.

Our neighborhood is great for walking along the lake, looking at the historical older homes in the neighborhood, or riding a bike, which can be rented at nearby bike shops. Also, day passes to the beaches can be purchased at the beach, or if you are a sailer and would like to rent a sail boat, there is marina by the university where you can rent a boat by the hour.
