- Be quiet: Respect when others need it quiet: keep noise levels down and be respectful with the neighbors who are willing to have a quiet day or night at home just like you!

The Neighborhood

Once a notoriously overcrowded and unsanitary slum, the Lower East Side is now one of Manhattan’s most fashionable neighborhoods. Most of the bargain-clothing stores and pickle vendors have given way to indie boutiques and sceney eateries, though there are a few cherished survivors of the former Jewish stronghold, including venerable smoked-fish purveyors Russ & Daughters and pastrami legend Katz’s Delicatessen. The Tenement Museum keeps the neighborhood’s history alive in a series of restored apartments visited via themed guided tours, but most of the area’s cultural draws are contemporary: The arrival of the New Museum on the Bowery several years ago drew numerous art galleries to the LES.

Getting Around

You have 3 options:

a) Delancey St / Essex St Station (4 minutes walk): This station connects to the F-J-M-Z trains and it's located on the corner of Delancey St and Essex St.

b) Bowery Station (3 minutes walk): This station connects to the J-Z trains and it's located on the corner of Bowery St and Delancey St.

c) M15 Bus: There are many stops on Allen Street and this bus will take you all the way up on 1st Avenue to 125th Street. On the way back, it's pretty simple as well. You can take it anywhere on 2nd Avenue and it will take you again all the way down to the closest stop which is on Hester Street.
