Bucharest is the capital of Romania and, at the same time, the largest city, industrial and commercial center of the country. The first reference to the town in 1459 and in 1862 became the capital of Romania.

Since then undergoes constant change, being the center of the art scene, culture and media. Between the two world wars, the elegant architecture and elite Bucharest brought him the nickname of Little Paris. The capital has the same administrative level as a county and is divided into six sectors, see the map of Bucharest.

Bucharest is in the south-east, between Ploiesti and Giurgiu, the banks of the Dambovita River, which flows into the Arges, a tributary of the Danube. Several lakes spread along the Colentina River, within the city, such as the Floreasca Lake, Lake Tei and Lake Colentina, and in the center there is a lake in Cismigiu.

This lake, the former swimming pool in the old medieval city, is surrounded by Cismigiu Garden, inaugurated in 1847 by the German architect Carl FW Meyer. Besides Cismigiu,
two other large parks, Herastrau (Village Museum) and Botanical Garden (the biggest in Romania and comprising over 10,000 species of plants, including exotic).

Bucharest has a special status in the country, is the only city that does not belong to any county. However, the population is bigger than any county.
Hall manages the city and is led by a mayor. The city has a total area of 228 km², located six administrative districts, each headed by its own mayor.

The sectors are arranged radially so that each of us has a role in the management of the city center. City Hall is responsible for utilities and industry Mayors Responsible contact between citizens and local government, secondary streets, parks, schools and sanitation services.

We arrived there during a heat wave in Bucharest. and the apartment was extremely hot! There is a bed in the bedroom and a couch bed in the living room. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom but not in the living room. We emailed the hosts to ask them if they had a fan we could use in the living room. They did not respond back until after we had already checked out of the apartment, and they stated that their fan was broken. The living room never cooled down enough to be comfortable for sleeping there. so we ended up having to move the couch bed into the bedroom.

The hosts were not there, as they were out of the country. There is a an older lady living in this same building who manages this apartment for the hosts but she does not speak 1 word of English so it was impossible to communicate with her. The Wi-Fi connection was horrible and we ended up using our cell phone's data network for internet access.

The hosts seem like nice people but they are basically absentee landlords as they are often out of the county. Had they been local, I'm sure they could have purchased a fan. It was a disappointment that they did not respond to our request for a fan until after we had already checked out. In my opinion, you are better off renting an apartment from a host who lives and stays near-by as there is a much better chance that they can respond to any concerns or problems you might be experiencing.
