Über Graham

Katrine and Graham have been happily married for more than forty years. We have three married children and seven lovely grandchildren. Another son died in a skiing accident when he was just eighteen. We did not want to move from our large house when the last child left home. Katrine’s father, an award-winning architect, had designed the house, so it is very precious to us. Both of us are trained teachers, Katrine at primary level and Graham at secondary. We are now retired, but Katrine still does some day-relieving teaching. She enjoys teaching the younger children. Graham was Head of English Department in several schools. He left teaching in 1980, moving into PR and fundraising. His last position before he retired was with the Red Cross for eight very satisfying years. We are interested in music, art, photography and gardening. We both enjoy reading. A number of Katrine’s paintings are on the walls. She painted in water-colours at first, but lately she has been working with pastels, which she is finding a most enjoyable medium to use. Graham puts his creative energies into the vegetable garden. Family, friends, travel and Christian activities are also important to us. Graham enjoys having more time to watch rugby football and cricket on TV. Having travelled extensively around New Zealand and overseas, we are happy to help with travel plan suggestions. We respect your privacy if you want some quiet time on your own, but we are certainly available for a friendly chat and are very interested in hearing about your holiday experiences or swapping stories over a cup of tea or coffee. Over the years we have hosted many interesting people from thirty countries and many occupations and backgrounds. It was a lifestyle choice which has proved to be a very enriching experience. We have made many good friends while helping make their visit to Auckland enjoyable. We will do our best to make your stay at Hillpark Homestay a time you will always remember – one leaving you with happy memories of Manukau and Auckland.
