"Regarded as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities and warmly referred to as the “Pearl of the Danube,” the Hungarian capital of Budapest is considered one of Eastern Europe's most enticing destinations. Budapest is brimming with stunning neo-gothic architecture, best represented by the massive Hungarian Parliament Building and St. Stephen’s Basilica. The Great Synagogue is one of the largest in the world, and aptly demonstrates Budapest’s ethnic diversity and cultural tolerance. Budapest has always been a city with a vibrant artistic culture, and a visit to one of the city’s opera houses, theaters or galleries such as the Palace of Arts or the Hungarian State Opera House is a rewarding experience. After a long day out in the city, experience one of Budapest’s famous public baths, legacies of Turkish control of the city. The famed Hotel Gellert helped Budapest earn its moniker Spa City with its enormous pool (check out their wave machine). Budapest has hotels catering to any price range, but many of the larger hotel chains are missing, so expect an element of unique Hungarian flair wherever you stay. Hungarian goulash and meat dishes are on most menus, but pizza and casual restaurants are becoming popular."
